Hi,

I'v read the magazines etc regarding Vista v XP and am still not sure what to go for when I buy a new laptop?
I also need advice here.
The magazines seem to love the Acer Aspire 5920WSMi which has Vista on
Most manufactureres only have Vista, pcnextday have XP but I have read bad things about them

I require a 2.0ghz (duo core) at least processor
2gb of ram
a decent 256mb video card
120gb+ h/d although a smaller one is not a real problem
17" crystalbrite type screen
Under £900

Any latop arecommendations Vista or XP with these specs??

Go with Vista. There's no reason not to except Luddite-ism. Why would you want an outdated OS when there's a much better one available?

With a laptop running 2GB RAM Vista will run OK.
I prefer to use XP, mainly as Vista's bugs will be ironed out with the inclusion of ServicePack1(SP1)
I bought from Toshiba, but mainly as 2 of my last 3 laptops were made by them.

With a sec like that I recon in a year or less you would regret having the out-dated XP. Go with Vista for sure.
And as thanks for the great advice you can buy one for me too ;)

Cheers
Dax

In your oppinion.

XP is anything but outdated.

@ Chasman

Goto a shop and try both , see which you like on the laptop , i personally hate vista especially on a laptop.

"XP is anything but outdated".
I agree wholeheartedly with PP321.

XP has now been on the market long enough to have had most of its bugs and driver inclusions sorted out.

Microsoft, as with car manufacturers, soon see a dip in their sales when a product has been around for some time. Most budget conscious people tend to stick with a well tested product.

I take the view that if a product does the job, why pander to new sales pitches. Don't change for the sake of change.

Of course if your latest fancy has something of value to you, then go ahead and buy it.
