looking at buying a new pc which is supplied with a 320mb 8800gts card. wondering if it would be worth upgrading to the nvidea 640mb 8800gts or the ATI 2900 xt card. what benefits would i gain.

Although I chose the 640mb 8800gts but having played Oblivion on both the 640mb 8800gts and the 320mb 8800gts I can tell you that you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Don't know about the ATI 2900 xt card.

If you intend to play the very latest games at very high resolutions and with all the details on max, you might just get a tiny benefit from the dearer cards.

I think the 320mb card is the best value for money by miles

the 320 version will be ok, get the 620 if you are getting a large screen. the 2900xt is equal to the 8800 except that is noisier.

get the 320, better value for money (as someone else said) and i have it :)

will the 320 gts be ok with a 22"monitor with a max res of 1680x1050

troutmouth,

yes it will run a 22"monitor with a max res of 1680x1050, with no problems whatsoever.

my vanilla 6600 runs my widescreen monitor at that resolution, so an 8800 certainly will

im running a 8800 with my belinea 22" widescreen, so yes is the answer you want ;)
