Sniper Elite 4 review: Headshotting Nazis has never felt so good
My VAIO has just died and I need a new laptop. However, I want a cheap one, because I spent loads on my last one (£1700) and it is done for after only 18 months.
I will really only be using it for word processing, music, maybe watching films. Most important is that it is portable, with a decent battery life. Also, I would like a firewire port on it.
I was looking at getting the Toshiba A210-1AZ because it seems like it has a good spec (AMD X2 1.8Ghz dual core processor, 1 Gb RAM (expandable to $), 120Gb HD (with a spare slot for another drive) and I know where to get one for £290 brand new.
However, PC advisor gave it a pretty bad review, so I don't know if I should get that now.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
For a budget laptop, the Dells just don't do it for me (for a change!) on this occasion - comparing the components & price with a few others...
Also consider the 'Acer Aspire 5720 Z' click here, with 2Gb RAM (you'll need it on Vista) & an Intel Dual Core T2310 = £330 / £317 with Quidco cashback click here
The Toshiba A210-1AZ can't be too bad for the price & intended usage. However, as it's Vista Premium I'd add another 1Gb**: click here / click here (cashback click here). Laptop+RAM upgrade will still dip under £300 (with all cashback).
"I know where to get one for £290 brand new" - I guess you mean click here. Take it down a shade by going through Quidco click here (other alternative, but with less Quidco cashback click here & click here). G
** Not sure from official specs click here, if original comes with 1x1Gb or 2x512Mb. If it's the latter, you'll have to buy 2x1Gb to get 2Gb in total. Or, the better Crucial 2x1Gb PC6400 kit click here (cashback click here).
PS - some Play.com discount codes...
Use discount code: ACER40 at checkout to get the Acer Aspire 5720 Z for £290 delivered.
Or, if getting the RAM, here's a 5% code: experience08
Wow, thanls crossbow. Good post. I'll check out your suggestions.
I've disregarded the A210-1AZ. My current preference is for the A210-1B1, which has a better processor and 2Gb RAM, for £330 after a cashback of £50.
That link doesn't work mate.
setecio link works fine for me. It comes to £329 (£318 with cashback click here).
Everything seems the same, except that it's got a slightly inferior CPU (TK57) & 40Gb less hard drive space than the A210-1B1.
Where are you buying the A210-1B1 from? Possible Quidco cashback to get it for slightly less.
The T2310/2Gb/80Gb Acer Aspire 5720 Z would be 'cheapest' overall though at £275.50 - i.e. £290 with discount code & £14.50 cashback.
You may be paying ~£55 more on the A210-1B1, but is it worth it for a slightly better CPU & double the hard disk space? G
If it still doesn't work....go to the Dell site & search for N0410008. G
Thanks, its working now. I appreciate your help, but I think that the Tosh A210-1B1 is still the best for the price. Especially as I've heard that Acer's are not very well built, and Toshs' are.
I was going to get it either from it247.com, or dabs.com (click here)
