What laptop should i buy for £1000? It will be mainly for leisure usage so lots of game play and movies etc.. I had narrowed it down to two machines:

Amilo M1437G- pentium 750

Sorry about that as i was saying the

Amilo M1437g pentium M750,1024MB,80gb,15.4 with a ATi mobility Radeon x7000 £900ish

or the Dell Inspiron 9400, intel dual core T2400,1024MB,80GB,15.4 with a ATi mobility Radeon X1400

so if u have a view on which one to buy please let me know or if you could recommend another would be much appreciated. Thank you for you time

Dell. I personally wouldn't touch any other make with the proverbial bargepole.

I use a Dell Dimension desktop and a Dell Inspiron laptop.

They are both the dog's dangley bits.

Try click here they seem to offer very good laptops, good delivery and the laptops are first rate in their build & are sturdy.

Regarding the Amilo one I'd hold off just now, there appears to be an ongoing fault on the casing which the company are checking on as the forum editor contacted them when quite a few people noticed cracks appearing. Heres the thread and its still ongoing at the moment click here

Most laptops are rebadged products from (usually Taiwanese) specialist manufacturers such as Acer and sold by companies under their own name.

For instance, although you "personally wouldn't touch any other make with the proverbial bargepole", at least one Samsung laptop model, the Q30, was rebadged by Dell as a Latitude X1 early last year.

No doubt someone will come up with similar Dell examples.

Then again, Dell rebrands (or has in the past) Sony and Mitsubishi monitors under its own name and some of its printers came from Lexmark.

I bought an Acer Aspire 5024WLM for about that price from a mail order firm in Huddersfield.

A small Windows problem was fixed easily, and after that it has worked, every day for long periods for 6 months now, without a murmur, mailnly playing games. I keep the battery out as it is plugged into y-the mains when in use. It is similar to their posh Ferrari model, but cheaper.

Personally, I am very [pleased with it.

I can vouch for the FE11S, having sourced one for someone a month or so back. He was as pleased as punch and still is. click here. I can't comment on the cheaper model, but it should be almost as good I would think.

wjrt can you please give me the link for the FE11S laptop at Comet as I can still only find the FE11H as I suggested
