Versa Laser

Heh Heh;
Have in seen this with my cynics pint glass half empty?
So you make a picture or 3d image on your PC press send and this device will turn a steel billet into a crank case or a model of my dog lucky?
Or a piece of wood into a spoon?
The advert on p21 of PCA suggests you can make 3D objects like this.
Sounds a bit "Logans Run" to me.
Any experience of this device?

First off, the device is real, and it starts at around $8000.

They're used primarily for prototyping in engineering, and also for model making in studios.

The Versa laser modeller was originally developed for military use, for making spare parts for tanks & field guns, and shells.

I've never used one, but I've seen one working and it's amazing to watch.
