USB HDD for TV

I've just been reading through the user manual of my new Samsung C8000 TV and found an entry under timer recording which says that I can "make a reservation to record a programme scheduled for broadcast". The TV manual says that I would need a USB HDD with at least 5,400rpm but not a RAID type. I would welcome advice on suitable devices, please, preferably without a fan.

I have two but connected to computers not TVs!

That seems a good recommendation. I suggest almost any USB HDD with it's own power supply (ie not a portable HDD using the USB to derive power from the computer). If the TV has a USB port maybe you could also use a USB memory stick?
