More 'trouble at mill' looming for Microsoft?

I've read in the recent past that China, Singapore and other foreign city authorities were contemplating using non-Microsoft products, mainly because of high cost and security issues.

China announced that Microsoft was the only one out of seven contenders that was left out of last year's massive five-year contract - worth about US$20 billion - for both operating systems and office productivity software.

If Beijing had chosen Microsoft's operating system and Office suite, it would have had to spend at least US$21.7 billion over the next five years. It instead chose a homegrown Linux system, Red Flag, and office applications software costing it just US$1.96 billion. By anyone's standard a huge saving that must have worried Microsoft immensely. An american big cheese was saying the other day what a security hazard it is to have one world wide system so it may be an excellent safety precaution. Then again it may turn out to be a complete cockup. When it comes to new software millions- probably billions of tax payers' dosh have been wasted on progs that don't work.

Could be our government are hoping for a similar money saving offer from Microsoft. They've got to find funding from somewhere to keep our lads and lasses in Iraq you know! ;o) TC.

Didn't think it would take long for MS to send in the hit squad! Too much at stake. TC.
