Thinking of upgrading my Graphics Card.

I'll start by outlining my system currently. I have a ASUS A8N-E mobo, 2gig of Ram, an AMD 4200+ X2 dual core processor and a 550W power supply. I currently have a PCI nVidia 6800GT graphics card and would like to upgrade. I'm an nVidia man and have narrowed it down to the 7900GTX 512mb and the 7950 GX2.

I was looking for some opinions on which to go for? Will my system be compatible with the 7950 GX2? Is it that much better than the 7900GTX or is it just overkill? Any comments are much appreciated!!

OOOOOO GX2 I want it i want it i want it .....

1gb of ram! Just wondering but most people I know only have 512! I have 1gb and soon to be 1.25 on this laptop but personally if your budget can afford it go for it unless you dont intend to use the power. Also it should fit but does take up the neighbouring PCI slot.

What monitor do you have?

I have a Viewsonic 19" VX912 flat panel (8ms). I think your refering to the resolution? The max resolution using this monitor is 1280 by 1024.

Get the biggest card with a machine like that.

At the resolution you are using the 7900GTX will be more than powerful enough. The 7950GX2 will indeed be expensive overkill.

Thank you for all your comments. I think based on the excellent link that Rayuk posted I'm gonna go with the 7900GTX.

I have one other question though who am I best to buy from? I got my computer from MESH so should I buy from them or go with one of the manufacturers in the article? If I do go for one of the manufacturers in the article do I still used nVidia drivers or the manufacturers?

Just use latest drivers from nvidia website
Do a price comparrison from various etailers such as scan overclockers.co.uk komplett.co.uk and many others.Including Eveshams site click here
One important thing to note there has been complications regarding overclocked versions of this card with a high failure rate,so would tend to keep away from this type. Will post link re this if I can find it again
