I popped into Special Reserve and was looking at the Athlon 64 computer they sell, but the chappie said to me if I was thinking of buying one to wait for a month because there was a new processor coming out. I never thought to ask him what it was. Has anyone any ideas what it is and what it is called? Thanks

There is a Duron replacement called Sempron...but as far as i'm aware it's not a 64 bit chip altho the 3100+ does use socket 754

there will be a new amd socket for the 64 series chips. as yet they are rarer than rocking horse shit. a month i feel is a bit optimistic, as you could also have to wait for the pci express stuff.

chill till xmas, then buy!

He might be thinking of the new AMD64 chip that uses 939 pin, this is because the older! AMD64 chips use less pins and these are being phased out to be replaced by the 939. So if you are not in dire need of a new p/c at this moment in time his advice was very good.

Rumour has it that the 64-4000 series may be out in September, if you can afford it!
