Binatone are on the cheaper end of the market!
And thus you pay cheap you get cheap.
You could get a Tomtom for under £100
Go to your local Tesco's and see whats on offer.

And it is quite poor. Terrible battery life, though it won't be a problem in cars with a power outlet, the touchscreen is awful, the screen is impossible to see in daylight, postcode search is useless, always weak signal, I could go on....

I'm with naineysman, if you have a 3G or 3GS iPhone then there are good satnav apps for that. I have the TomTom one and it is brilliant.

Map Updates, roughly, £20.00pa

Safety! Cameras, roughly, £20.00pa.

You can source both of these for free, but I'm not sure that I would trust them where my livelihood is involved.

I've puzzled about these wide-screen sat navs,

Why do they have them? I'm not interested about things off to the side; I'm more interested in what's ahead.

If I really want details of things off to the side (oh, about twice in the last year), I just zoom out for a moment.

So, what is supposed to be the advantage of the wide screen?

The Key Board is a reasonable size
