Some consumer rights under the law

This is a subject that appears frequently in this forum when goods and services fail, yet some companies today still try to get around the law by various means.

Funnily enough, I was only reading earlier today, a report about a EU investigation into websites that sell electronic goods, in which half were failing to abide statutory consumer laws.

Of 369 sites around the EU in May of this year (including 200 of the largest online retailers) showed six in ten were giving misleading information about consumer rights. Some of these retailers are due to be investigated further, and "will be contacted by the appropriate national authorities".

Here in the UK, the Office of Fair Trading is also looking into 'potentially misleading advertising and pricing of goods, with particular focus on the internet'.
