Searching for porn

I control one or two public networks that allow public internet access for free, there are no logon details, passwords etc.

As is expected there are a lot of searches entitled "porn", no problem. Lots of users say that porn finds them..fair enough it can, but one chap asked me "can child porn just pop up"?

In the years I have been on the net I have never come accross any but there are ocasions when this has happened with others.

How common is this with PCA members?

Chris

Fair enough but the question was "can child porn just pop up"

Never happened to me either - but theres no reason why it couldn't.

However the likely hood is extremely low. Whilst its possible to find this stuff i doubt any Child Pornographer is going to think that providing pop up links to their website is a good idea. In order to come across any Child Porn popups i think you'd have to be looking in those areas first.

J2K I agree, however you seem to be saying that it could but it won't. Taboo as it gets and not a pleasent subject to discuss but I do get asked this quite often.....

Hi Chris. Three years of daily use with constant searches for an answer to all type of problems, some of the questions poorly worded and not once have I ever ended up at a Porn site.

Advertisements on web pages, and un-invited e-mails, yes! The latter quite often in the early days. But I think one would need to either look for Porn sites, or accidentally respond to a dubious mail. Even then I would have thought you can back out at any stage you choose to. j.

I used to use ICQ messenger,I stopped using it as I regularly got www addys arriving offering a link to porn sites, one of these was repulsive, sick and very highly illegal,as it was kiddie porn.I removed ICQ,ran a few tests on the originator of the www and according to that,it had been sent by a 16 year old girl in USA.I also reported the www addy to Yahoo(I think it was)and within a few hours the www site was gone.I hope the builder of that particular site got caught and sentenced to a lengthy jail term.I have never had "popups" tho' offering porn of any type, but wouldn't doubt that they could occur(especially if they have been to any porn sites)

Sorry.

What i meant was...

1) It COULD happen - ie it is a possibility that such pop ups DO exist.

However

2) I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to advertise Child Porn in this manner. Then again there is always one evolutionary throwback who might!

So what I'm saying is if you were idly surfing the net then i doubt one would just "pop up" - thats inviting trouble. However if you are looking for this stuff and are already surfing such sites then you are more likely to come across one.

I can't see one popping up as an open invitation on any NON-Child Porn site but once into those sort of sites its a possibility i suppose.

Bit like Golf pop ups are more likely on a Golf sports page than a Formula 1 motoring page.

And if I am to be completely honest, in the early days I did have A look at some porn sites (absolutely nothing illegal tho) and I never received any pop-ups for porn of any kind let alone child porn.
I would suggest that if you were to search for such disgusting filth then you might be open to such pop-ups but I would have very little sympathy for the recipient.

  recap 14:04 11 Oct 03

Never heard of any popping up at my 2 centres spikeychris or in any of the 6K+ other centres I am in contact with.

Can you not trace the person that has searched for this through your server records?
