Repairs under Warranty

Recently had a problem with a 6mth old freeview tuner/recorder purchased on line from Empire Direct. When I contacted them I was advised to contact the manufacturer (Sharp) directly. I thought the retailer was responsible under the Sale of Goods Act. I did call Sharp and they provided a 'swop out' (dreadful term) within 2 days which is fantastic service. I note in the paperwork with a Hoover vaccuum that has also developed a fault that I should contact Hoover and not the retailer. Has the law changed for warranty repairs?

No. in a word. The law has not changed, but retailers often advise you to contact the manufacturer as you may/probably receive quicker service.
