They are not always this wonderful. Some time ago now, my ink jet printer broke down, caused by the printhead having stopped working. This was 13 months after purchase, i.e. 1 month outside the warranty period. I contacted Canon, by 'phone, and asked if they would repair the fault as it was only just out of warranty. They refused, but offered to sell me a replacement printhead, wait for it - for more than I paid for the complete printer in the first place.
