I've got a poor grasp of computers but want to buy a new PC mainly for gaming and genreal home use. I've got a budget between £700 - £800 (ish). I'm after some advice on spec and best buys for my needs. Thanks for any advice offered.

Something like this perhaps click here and for a monitor perhaps this click here.
Only thing about getting a PC now is theres very few DirectX 10 graphics cards out, and if you want one of them, as the ones that are out are very expensive, you might be better waiting.
Having said that the Novatech PC is pretty good for the money and will play everything thats out at a good resolution.

something with a core 2 duo, 2g of ram, and a dx10 card. 8800gts ram if possible or one of the new 8600 versions that should be available on new ps's.
