Outlook express 6 update problem

Recently upon booting up system I was asked if I wanted to update to version 6 of outlook express. I automatically said yes as I have done in the past but this time I cannot receive or send any e-mail. It simply hangs there and says 'connecting'. I checked on the microsoft website and found that if you use a pop3 server then outlook express 6 is not compatible (if only I'd noticed this before). I thought I could just uninstall outlook express but when I tried it asked me if I wanted to go back to original settings but this didn't solve it either. I did wonder if I should uninstall my internet provider which is NTL broadband and then re-install it again. Any ideas anyone?

I've always used OE (been on OE6 since its launch) and I have a POP3 server!

I would check with NTL what the correct configuration in Accounts should be (Tools>Accounts>Properties).
