O2 Email Possible scam

  jaraba 13:57 PM 19 Oct 11

I have an O2 account for mobile & email and I received an email this morning asking me to click a link to verify my account details.

Can't post the actual email or link as I deleted it.

Just wanted to warn anyone else in case it is a scam.

No reputable company will ever email you to ask you to click a link and verify your account details.

You may get an email asking you to click a link to confirm your registration on sites like ours, but that's different - you're not being asked to provide confidential information about yourself, and you will normally be warned that it will happen when you complete a registration form, so you will expect the email.

The sort of message you describe is sent out by the million every day of the week, and there are always a few people who oblige by clicking the link - enough to make it very worthwhile for the perpetrators to continue sending the messages.
