Just been to a friend who has bought a new PC with Win XP pre-installed. His old PC is running Win 98SE.

He is on NTL Broadband. Put the NTL BB setup CD in and followed the prompts. No go.

Rang NTL Tech Support. Answered within 30 seconds. Talked through the setup without the need for the Install CD. Took about 3 minutes max.

Now all up and running.

SG Atlantis®, true.

Got to do the same thing again this afternoon except this time the person is on AOL Silver Broadband. Let's see how AOL cope???

Well AOL did just as well. After pressing the right Option number (technical support) answered almost immediately. Problem solved within 30 seconds. (need an install CD which is being posted). But the tech support guy did offer to set up a freephone dialup account while waiting for the CD to arrive, which was declined.

So, NTL and AOL get my vote.

Will tick as resolved.

Been on their 1Mb broadband for £9.99/month for just over a year - overall very pleased.

Called them recently, after my year was up, & they extended the same low price for another 6 months minimum with no annual commitment (30-day notice required to cancel). The usual price for £1Mb is £17.99. G
