Novatech DVD Writer

Last month I purchased an ISYS EX E7400 computer from Novatech. I naturally used the CD-ROM drive to install the Windows XP Pro and the necessary drivers supplied with the machine and assumed the drive would not only write DVD's but would also play them.

Yesterday, for the first time, I tried to use the player and found it would not play a DVD. Apparently a compatible DVD decoder is not installed.

Today I contacted Novatech via their 'Live Chat' facility and was informed "Windows on its own does not have the ability to playback a DVD film. For DVD playback you must install a third party decoder like powerdvd or vlc player".

When I pointed out to the technician that the necessary software had been supplied with players I had previously purchased from other suppliers I was informed that it is third party software that is not supplied with the PC.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

Just install one of many free apps... no big deal.
