Norton Internet Security

This is installed on my son's new PC.

It keeps throwing up warnings (permitted cookie etc) which does not appear to require any action, so can these warnings be inhibited?

Some of the warnings relate to the "blocking of an unused port" which means absolutely nothing to either of us. Can anyone interpret, please?

Finally, he also continually gets a pop-up "program control" screen telling him that someone (or something) is attempting to access his PC using the word "host" and asking for action on his part, which is either block or permit. How does anyone know what action to take?

Any advice would be welcome.

If its 2003, then right click the globe icon in your system tray.

Select Norton Internet Security and Left click it.

On the box that now opens, select Alerting Level (that's another Left click)

Make sure the slider is Low (which is the Default level on mine).

That should reduce the amount of information you are being bombarded with.

As for what action to take, I usually let NIS do its 'default' thing. You can get rid of the Alert Tracker by Right clicking the globe icon and selecting Hide Alert Tracker.

Hope that helps.
