I Know this question has probably been on here a hundred times, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a computer (£400 - £500), I do not need a monitor or anything else. I will also want it to be upgradable so that new games can be played in the future.
Any Ideas

If you've got that much to spend, I'd suggest building your own (as opposed to buying from pcworld etc) as you'll get better specs.

I purchased from click here , you can choose exactly what spec you want and what upgrade you want, and their aftersales service is very good.

ie

AMD 64 x2 3800
512mb RAM
200GB hard drive
16 x DVD-RW
Windows XP Home
is £480

By buying from a smaller company it is generally easier to upgrade, unlike DELL which can have some custom sized parts. The only problem with the above machine is that it has integrated graphics which will not run the latest games. However I have spent a little extra on getting a dual core chip. Alternatively you could have the following spec with is slightly more gaming orientated by you loose the dual core:-

AMD 3000
1024mb RAM
200GB Hard Drive
16x DVD-RW
Geforce 6600 PCI GFX card
XP Home

Unless you are confident in knowing your abilities I wouldn't recommend a self build, it can be very frustrating. However if you relish a challenge give it a go. As most companies buy in bulk you will probably find that building your own won't save much money nowadays, in fact it can work our more expensive. Do costings on both options before deciding.

Looking at the specifications, I would save a further £19.00 by not having Norton. Use AVG or Avast for free.

Novatech offer a fair range including barebone units with good aftercare service click here

As there are literally many thousands of combinations possible within your price range, it's probably better if you detailed precisely what you require the system to achieve.
