New Gaming PC, what should I get?

I'm going to buy a new PC and have narrowed my choice down between 2 high-end computers.

For £1,350
Intel Core 2 Quad Xeon X3350 2.66GHz (Over Clocked to 3.30GHz)
4GB RAM,
1TB HDD,
ATI HD 4870 X2 2048MB

or,

For £1,120
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz (Over Clocked to 3.00GHz)
4GB RAM,
500GB HDD,
ATI HD 4870 X2 2048MB

I'm not too bothered about the amount of HDD space, but I included that as it does make some of the difference in the price, otherwise the systems are completely the same except for the motherboard, power supply & cooling systems which vary slightly due to the different processors.

What I'm wondering is will the latter options processor age well (in comparison with the graphics card)?

Do you think I should pay the extra £230 for the better processor or do you think that I will not notice the extra .33 x 4 GHz over the next 4-5 years when I'll probably want to upgrade my pc again?

thankyou in advance for any advice.

Go for the 2nd one.
With 4GB RAM u will need to run Vista.
As XP does not see over 3GB of RAM
Which company is it from?

I'd go for the 2nd one too. Paying £230 for a slightly faster CPU simply isn't worth it I reckon. Can you provide links to the two systems please? Just want to see what all the differences are. Looks like the PCs are from Overclockers click here?

version8, that's not true. The 4Gb limitation is for all 32-bit versions of XP/Vista. These systems will typically 'see' 3 - 3.5Gb. G

if the ram 2x2 is dual channel mode you still get a speed boost. plus the 6600 will go to 3.6, gpu is the most important for games.

Or simply buy an xbox 360, have a fantastic gaming machine and save yourself a huge amount of cash to boot.

After reading this post I now completely remember why I gave up gaming on PC's!
