new dvd writter won't recogonise medium

Just got a new pioneer 106 but it will only recognise my cdrs but doesn't seem to recognise dvdr's. Got a varied selction of memorex and datawrite dvd-r. using nero 5 and it does read my dvdrs that are a;ready burnt but not any dvd-r's . Any ideas ??

DVD writers are very faddy about what disks they will write to. Check on the manufacturers website or the disk suppliers website to ensure compatibility.

I also have a Pioneer DVD-RW,I got no software with it when purchased,and I had major hassles with Nero/XP insisting a blank DVD was only able to hold 650mbs.I wanted to burn a home video onto a dvd.I used the "choose recorder" in Nero,and Nero finally gave in and recognised a blank DVD as 4.7 Gb,although XP's inbuilt burning software still insists that 650mbs is all a dvd disc will hold.

XP's built in burning is for CDs only click here

There is freeware software for burning DVDs click here

The Pioneer 106 needs Nero 5.5.10 at least for recognition and DVD burning without any problems.

Upgraded to a demo nero 6.0 and it seems to recognise them now. thanks for all ur advice guys
