Need help with broadband setup/Router

  funkey_monkey 08:44 27 Jul 06

I'm getting broadband installed into my house and require a wireless router to deliver the internet to two upper level rooms.

As the house is rented accommodation the landlord does not want wires routed into each of the rooms - so wireless is the only option. fortunately the ceiling to the upper level rooms is not concrete (wooden floorboards and joists) so the singal should hopefully not degrade much in transmission.

However, I am unsure about what I requriee in terms of a router. We are thinking of getting the NTL 4mps broadband option - as we are already an NTL customer.

What do I need to consider when getting a router. I was told about some IEEE protocol that has something to do with the connection speed and apparently it is at version g.

Does anyone know anything about this?

How do I check my network card on the PC for its max rated speed etc?

There will be two (maybe three) users for the hub.

Can I get some advice please on what checks I need to do and what type of router I require?

Many thanks.

Please stick to your other thread. These questions are more suited to Networking anyway.
