lost hard drive partitioning

Yes I know I have been very naughty and yes I have learnt my lesson, but can anybody suggest a cheep solution to my problem?

I upgraded my system from Windows ME to XP using a closed Windows CD. All went well until I installed an official MS update. When I restarted the PC the operating system was in an endless loop – never completely reaching fully loaded and then restarting the system. All was lost, reformat and reinstall ME being the solution, but what of the lost records in My Documents. Back-up I hear you cry – yes I have those on a second SCSI hard drive.

But the crash as taken out the partitioning on the second drive and can no longer be seen by DOS or Windows (FDISK sees it without a drive number or partitioning).

Partition Magic can’t help to recover the lost data.

Any ideas how I can recover the data?
