I am looking for a lightweight laptop [not netbook] with a built in dvd to replace my Toshiba Tecra which died after having orange juice tipped over it. I have spent an hour on the web trying to find something without success. Can any of you out there point me in the right direction.

What would you call lightweight?

less than 2kg

As far as I am aware all laptops (not netbooks) have a DVD drive.
Do you want blu-ray?
Do you want to watch movies? If so the screen size may be important and that may well increase the weight.
A laptop under 2Kg may well be described as a mobile laptop.
Not sure about Laptops direct but their website will give pointers to what is available. You can select for under 2Kg click here=*&af=14:170kg%20178:1000in%20178:1020in%20178:1110in%20178:1160in%20178:1210in%20178:1310in%20178:1330in%20178:1340in%20type:laptop&isort=price&method=and&view=grid

Ouch - should have used a tiny url.

Look under mobile laptops.

Thanks for the link Woolwell, although many of those are still quite heavy. I think I am going to opt for the Toshiba portege [1.4 kg], if only the macbook air had a dvd I would be sorely tempted to opt for that.

What about the HP 2530p? click here

It says it starts from 1.45kg, so can't be that heavy. There are loads of models to chose from if you look around too. I have the older 2510p and it's very light and very well built (should be for that price though!).
