Lexmark C522 laser printer

I purchased a Lexmark C522 about a year ago on the recommendation of various forums etc and also because I felt that it would be reasonable in use as the quoted output per cartridge was quoted as 2000+ pages - how disappointing and how expensive it has become to now find that it produces a statistical 700 pages which I believe in reality is less than 100 actual pages. Which at a cost of £80 per cartridge making very expensive printing. And the reason for all this, well apparently I am told by Lexmark the C522 uses up the colour cartridge even if you are just printing black it then dumps it in the toner box. I wonder has any one else had this problem and is so how did you resolve it.
