I am currently looking to buy a laptop as a 2nd machine to compliment my desktop at home. Although it would primarily be used for mobile word-processing and e-mail it would also be used for some internet and presentation work involving graphics and video.

There are lots of machines out there in the £650-£800 price range with both AMD or Intel-based chips offering 256-512 MB RAM and hard-drives of up to 60GB. On paper, Mesh, Evesham, Dell and Acer all have reasonable deals. Does anyone have any experience of these "budget" machines as most magazine reviews concentrate on "lower-end" machines in the region of £1000 minimum?
