Laptop Choice

Hi ladies and gents,

I have a budget of £500 (UK) to spend on a laptop. I'm new to laptops and would be grateful for some advice.

I have a choice of 2 machines:

A Packard Bell F7305/P which is a 3.08GHz P4, 256 Mb RAM, 40 Gb HD, 64 Mb Shared Graphics.

or, An Advent 7075, 1.5GHz Celeron, 256Mb RAM, 40 Gb hard drive and 64 Mb integrated Graphics.

On the face of it, the better option is the Packard Bell, however the battery life is only 1.5 hours vice 2.5 on the Advent.

Questions:

Would I notice much of a difference in performance between the 2 machines?
How easy is it to add extra memory to a Laptop (Desktop experience only)!!?
Is 1.5 hours battery going to end up being annoying?

Cheers

Prop

(1) The difference is big. 1.5 GHZ Celeron-M is about 2.0GHz P4, so P4 will be 50% faster. However this is only matter if you want to do video editing/encode (HDD too small for this anyway) or play latest game (integrated graphics is not good for this anyway).

(2) Replace RAM, I would say easier than desktop.

(3) battery life? All depend on what you want, if you want a desktop replacement, short battery does not matter, if you want to move around, P4 lappy is not good.

A few points:

(a) P4 lappy is hot and noisy

(b) a few alternative for you
