laptop car chargers

Hi - these generic, universal type car chargers for laptops - do they work? I want to take mine to France this year and won't always have electricity; the one recommended by toshiba is £70 - the one-size-fits-all ones are much cheaper. Also (and I'm not technical so I don't really understand it) is it better to get a mains inverter instead? (whatever that is!)

You may fins that a mains inverter is more flexible, one from Maplin is less than £20.

I've gone down the Inverter route too.

As deep-joy says, it's more flexible

Bon voyage!

Why would you want to use a laptop to charge a car?
