Can't speak for the phone but, like you, I so much wanted to try an iOs device, having not used one since the days of the Apple Mac.

So I bought an iPad4.

I returned it after less than a week, pretty unimpressed. A triumph of hype over reality.

Think carefully before you spend your cash.

**"So I bought an iPad4. I returned it after less than a week, pretty unimpressed. A triumph of hype over reality."**

At the end of 2012 Apple was selling over 1.7 million iPads every week. It would have been more, but they simply couldn't turn them out in sufficient quantities. International companies have been buying them by the thousand for use by staff, and the Swedish government bought 10,000 iPads. The port authority of the Netherlands recently bought 5000 of them.

The iPad has been the most successful computing device ever produced, and it hasn't done that by being a triumph of hype over reality.

Forum Editor, are you sure? Used one the other day. It was a computer and that is all. I agree with morddwyd," A triumph of hype over reality."

what about iPhone 4 ? is it a right decision to go for it at this point of time ?

" it hasn't done that by being a triumph of hype over reality."

Sorry, I should have prefixed that with "for me".

However, it was not meant as a criticism of the iPad, for which I have raised a dedicated thread elsewhere, nor was it meant to hijack new bee's thread, just a simple attempt at some constructive comment for him/her, to date the only such comment offered..

My opinions of the iPad are based on my use of one over a long period - it's simply the best mobile device I've ever used - and on its success in the marketplace, which has been phenomenal.

An iPad isn't for everyone, obviously, but it is certainly an extremely useful device as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't want to be without mine.

"what about iPhone 4 ? is it a right decision to go for it at this point of time ?"

That's something only you can decide. It's a superb phone, but only you decide whether you want to buy - it's not really something that we can advise on subjectively.

As FE says, it's a subjective decision. But I recently analysed the iPhone 4 and Nexus 4, which may offer some guidance.

Personally, if I had never had an iPhone, I'd say go for the Android. The price difference in the case of the Nexus 4 is staggering if you buy outright. Even on contract the competition is driving down prices. Best advice: go to a store and try out both platforms.
