The Canon MP110 All in One @£55 was great and cartridge were 3 B&W for £9 and 3 colour for £12. I think it's been replaced by the MP150 but the cartridges have different codes and I haven't discovered if the cheap ones work on it.

All-in-ones are much improved but a dedicated printer is always going to outclass the cheaper ones .

Checking on Choice Stationery looks like the Canon is now cheaper by about £2 per cartridge.

Epson R800 £5.99 Canon iP8500 £4.00

Unfortunately Epson have started taking many manufacturers of compatible cartridges to court for infringing Epson's patents on cartridge design.

Choice stationary are fighting back with a new range of patented cartridges called ThinkPlus (click here) which are a new patented design. This obviously means that they are more expensive than they used to be. I've not tried these yet as I bought a shed load of the old ones last week.

This means that at the moment Canon cartridges are cheaper than Epson's, and consequently Epson's court action will mean that after using their printers for the last 20 years I will probably replace my trusty R300 with a Canon when it dies.
