My son wants a laptop for around £500 mark and he has looked at the sony vgn n38 and a few toshibas, but favours the HP.

I do know they are no longer being produced, but I think the specs are ok and the it has passed the touchy feely test.

Many thanks

Theres an issue with several series of HP laptops that has been kept quiet for a while now, and thats an issue with the built in wireless card, usually in dv6000, dv9000 and dv2000 laptops.
The wireless card can intermittently not work, due to whatever hardware/software incompatibilites are going on. I myself have a dv2116wm that is sitting in a HP repair shop somewhere due to the problem

However, HP hate to admit that it is a reoccuring problem, so if it does happen, you have to push for a repair.

On the other hand, it may just be some models.

Thanks Zopah.

We have just got the 6529, which is marked as a new model on the HP site.Hopefully they would have fixed any problems by now.

It was £440 + a free printer from staples. Seems good.

Which ever way, my Son is happy and therefore I am.
