I have BT broadband on my notebook(winXP) and have just recently bought a MESH desktop. I want to network them both so i can use broadband upstairs in my room too. What type of networking should i get? I was thinking to get a wireless network - but i heard that they were quite slow - whats ideal and easiest for the situation?

You'll probably get more luck by posting this question in the Helproom

I have two pcs, two laptops and a pda wirelessly networked - unless you're planning on transferring large files wireless is fine - more than enough for broadband.
