Nintendo Switch review: Hands-on with the intuitive modular console and its disappointing games…
Hi this is my first gaming PC build and I have a decision to make! With a budget of approx £700 this is the spec I have cooked up on 'cyberpowersystem':
Coolermaster Storm Scout Case
700 watt PSU (maker unknown)
AMD Phenom II X4 955
Coolermaster Hyper TX3 CPU Cooling Fan
Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Motherboard (USB 3.0, DDR3 etc...)
4gb 1333mhz Corsair Ram
NVidia Geforce GTX 275 896mb card
500GB Samsung Spinpoint 7200rpm HDD
Sony Optiarc 22x DVD Drive D/L etc...
Grand Total £720 including P/P...
First of all what do you all think of this spec and second should I sacrifice this good motherboard (save £52 and have an Asus M4A78LT-M) and use the extra money on upgrading the GPU to a ATi Radeon 5850? Or get a lesser CPU (e.g Phenom X2 550 B/E) to upgrade GPU etc... Any advice would be great as this is all new to me!
Also I will be playing things like Crysis, GTA4, Mass Effect 2 etc... on between 1600x1050 and 1920x1080 (mostly 1600x1050 though)
- THANKS!!! ;-)
I would definitely go for a decent brand of PSU, arguably the most important part of the PC.
definitly a hd5850, nvidias whole range of cards are now obsolete and they are working on new dx11 cards.
Thank you all so much for such quick replies! - your advice is greatly appreciated! ;-)
Ok, so now I will definately go for the ATi 5850, but what should I sacrifice for it, as I can't afford to keep all the other components and add it as well!
- Swap the 'Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Motherboard' with USB 3.0 and all sorts of bells & whistles for the 'Asus M4A78LT-M Motherboard' - DDR3 but not USB 3.0.
- OR... swap the 'AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz Quad-Core' and get the 'AMD Phenom X2 550 Black Edition 3.1Ghz Dual Core'...
P.S: I don't really want to upgrade for minimum of 6 months, probably a year.
I presume you have no usb3 devices to use on the gigabyte board so the stuff you have will run at usb2 speed. you can always add a usb3 card in the future.
id chop the USB 3 and get the better graphics card 5850 plays crysis on high settings no probs
I recently upgraded my CPU, RAM and M/B. I got the AMD Phenom II 550 and can vouch that its a great cpu for gameing and one of the best value cpus on the market. I put it togther with a MSI 770-C45 AMD 770 AM3 DDR3 M/B which has the ability to unlock certain AMD cpus. Luckally my cpu unlocked stabaly and i noy have a AMD Phenom II x 4 B50 which is a great quad core for £70. I pair the cpu M/B with 4Mb DDR 1600. all for about £200.
I would recommend going for the dual core with the 5850, it will have no problems with the games you have listed and will last you into the future. Just wish I had the cash for a 5850.
Thank you all so much - this has been a real help!
As 'citadel' said, I don't have any USB 3.0 devices, so would there be any performance improvements? - And If I really do want it, I can get a PCI.
And thanks to 'donki' for the advice re: 550 B/E, its good to get an opinion from someone who has used one!
