I have got a hp dv7-1000ea has a geforce 96000m gt graphics card in and seems pretty good for gaming. For a comparison it can play call of duty 4 with full graphics fine and can play flight sim x and high graphics.

can get the machine from play for £769 but hp has a £100 cash back offer this month so will bring in budget, have a look here for offer click here

if you go to click here you can see a review of the graphics card and how it copes with certain games.

Don't know what games you intend to play or your expectations. There's a refurb Dell XPS M1710 17" laptop click here for ~£500 delivered, with a 7950 GTX graphics card: click here - 17 places higher than the 9600M GT in the list. G

Thats a really good price, no idea what dell refurbs are like for the quality and it is shame that it only has 2gb of ram and a pretty small hard drive but for that amount of money you could easily upgrade the ram and get an external HDD
