hi
i am thinking of buying the above cpu mostly for general use web browsing and tasks no games, would that be good choice, does this cpu support ddr400 memory, the core is san diego

This is more of a gaming cpu a bit over the top for what you want.
It does support PC3200
Do you do a lot of multi tasking and have a motherboard that will take a dual core cpu

it might struggle a bit, with word documents... :-)

an FX-55?! using the exhaust fumes of an F-16 jet, to fry sausages would be less overkill.

Not only overkill, the FX range is aimed at serious and well healed gamers, but expensive too.

See click here Note FX55 over £500, Athlon 64 3400+ just £128 and still plenty fast enough for what you tell us you intend to do.

All Athlon 64 cpus support DDR400 ram.

If all you want is for web browsing and simple tasks, then you can save a HELL ALOT of money just by going for something like a AMD Sempron. FX-55.....?? Like those said above, that is just complete overkill and a giant dent in your wallet alone!
