DVD ripping/editting software

I need a suggestion of a good software package which will enable me to rip and edit dvds. I've got loads of dvds of the kids and i'd like to be able to edit them and burn them.

On a technical level, if you are 'backing up' purchased films it's llegal, but as has been discussed before on these forums, it's unlikel;y that anyone is gong to breakdown your door and arrest you for it (at least I hoep they're not, I've got about 200 DVD's backed up on a media center!).
