dixons/mastercare-added damage to camera

hello, for over 6 weeks now i have had a problem with a digital camcorder i bought from dixons last october. there were mechanical faults that needed to be fixed. these issues were not resolved, and added to this, cosmetic damage has now appeared on the casing. stress fractures(white abrasions if you like) have appeared in two instances on the casing, aswell as a threaded screw which has been glued inplace with a white sticky something i cant recognise. they have have the unit 4 times over the period of these six weeks. these marks are quite obvious on inspection.

i had sent the unit back requesting a change of product, or vouchers as stated in the contrtact under '6 week rule' whereby if they have it for 6 weeks or more then i can indeed ask for vouchers for a new unit if the problem has not been resolved in any continuous 6 weeks. they have called me yesterday to tell me they can't find anything wrong with the camera, and will not be issuing vouchers.

what can i do??? thanks

Paul

If I were you second best, I would want to establish a few details with Dixons first.

Does the camcorder still have the original clearly demonstrable fault that Dixons have failed to fix. If so, confirm their response to this fault.

Do Dixons accept the subsequent cosmetic damage has been caused whilst the camera was in their possession. Did you point it out to them on each occassion?

Do they believe the glued screw is part of a repair carried out to a reasonable standard.

At least you'll have something to work on then. You may well finish up having to take the camera to a specialist repairer for an opinion on the quality of the work carried out so far and what's required to bring the camera back to full working order and in a reasonable cosmetic condition for its age.

I had a problem with a product bought from Dixons that developed a fault. I returned it, they accepted it was faulty but had no more in stock. They said I could travel to another branch 30 miles away or they could give me a refund in gift vouchers. I still had the receipt and learnt afterwards that they were wrong to offer a refund in vouchers. As a consumer who has purchased defective goods you are entitled, under the Sale of Goods Act to be placed in the same position as you were before the transaction took place. That means your money back and not being fobbed off with gift vouchers!

thanks for that all . lots to go over there. as it happens i rang head office at dixons and they are looking into it further. they asked me to take the cam to the store i bought it so they could confirm the damage, which i did, and they did. vouchers were mentioned, but they are looking to confirm there is no break within the 6 weeks of repair. if all is ok, then i think they will replace the item with vouchers. a total refund is out of the question i think, as the cam is now over a year old. i shall wait and see what they say next after i call into the store tomorrow. thanks again. if then 'fob me off' i will consider TS.

seems there's nothing the local store can, or is willing to do. i have been told to write to head office to take the matter further.

Suggest one last call to Dixons giving them 48 hours to solve the problem, after which you will contact Trading Standards - and then do it.One other suggestion - at all times when dealing with Dixons adopt a very reasonable and calm manner, since this can only highlight the lack of reasonable behaviour of the company should it end up in court.
