CE not building a pc based on my specs

I have bought a 477 pounds customized desktop from Cougar Extreme 4 days ago. On their website, I have selected the 'Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 2.80 GHz 3Mb Cache.'

A day later, when googling online on the processor unit, I realized Cougar Extreme has made a mistake in stating the processor model. The correct model is actually called 'Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz 3MB' instead of 'Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 2.80 GHz 3Mb Cache.' I emailed one of their staff and pointed out their mistake.

Yesterday, a staff from the company phoned me and admitted their mistake in stating the processor model. However, he mentioned that I won't be receving the Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8Ghz processor. Instead, I would be getting an Intel Pentium Processor E6300 2.8Ghz or Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86Ghz. If I insists on getting the Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8Ghz processor, I would be charged another 30 pounds.

Now that Cougar Extreme has debited my account and I don't want to fork out another 30 pounds, what should I do now? Can I cancel my order and get my refund or there are other ways that can protect my rights as a consumer?

You have already whined about this and you received some very good replies. I would take heed of them as the original post was deleted. Pay the £30 and enjoy the computer.

I didn't manage to see the replies after the post got deleted. I am sorry about that.

As a matter of interest, what reason did FE give for deleting the original post?

I told FE to delete the post because the post is too long and incomprehensible. My bad.

If it's any consolation, the E7400 CPU is better than the E6300 & definitely worth the £30 extra.

However, if you're happy with the E6300 that you originally chose & will be getting at the quoted price, then I cannot see what the problem is. G

P.S. I didn't read the original deleted thread

I definately wouldn't want the Intel Pentium E6300, therefore I have requested a refund from Cougar Extreme. I think it is possible because the pc is not made to my specification, isn't it? If not, I would be really disheartened.

>>On their website, I have selected the 'Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 2.80 GHz 3Mb Cache.'>>

>>I definately wouldn't want the Intel Pentium E6300>>

Aren't you contradicting yourself? G

Without seeing the original advert it's not possble to say if it was incorrect.

*If* it was incorrect then you may have grounds to claim a refund.

There's a cooling off period (7 days????) during which time you can cancel the order, providing the computer is not being custom made to your spec. This does not include picking from a predefined list of options from the website.

As far as I can work out, the problem is that there are two versions of the E6300 - a Pentium and a Core 2 Duo.

2.8GHz, 3MB cache is the spec of a Core 2 Duo E7400

2.8MHz, 2MB cache is the spec for a Pentium E6300

1.86GHz, 2MB cache s the spec for a Core 2 Duo E6300

I can see how cunfusion arises!
