Buy or build?

Hi all
I am considering buying a new computer and have a budget of around £1200. My priorities are a decent gaming machine, without going to £2k+ extremes, and something to store and handle music, photos, play multimedia etc. In other words a good all rounder capable of a good level of gaming.
I am wondering if it is possible to buy a system capable of hooking up to a decent LCDTV for a home entertainment package, although it is not the priority.
I am considering three options.
1 Buy a budget P.C, £500ish and go in for one of the latest consoles for gaming
2 Buy a good package for around £1200, Cube 247 Nova ST3 for instance
3 Or would my £1200 get me more if I were to build my own.
Any comments or recommendations would be most welcome.

I used to build my own, when I say 'build' all you actually do is snap a few bits together, but in recent years there is no saving to be had with DIY.

Have one built to your spec is the best bet by far. click here is where my last three have came from.

Might be no saving to be had with DIY, but there's a heck of a lot of satisfaction!
