Bose Wave Radio - Is it worth the money?

My old Sony Clock Radio has developed a fault (the Reset Button only works in Slow Mode) and it's beginning to annoy me. Last time we had a power cut it took me more than 20 minutes to reset both the clock and the alarm.

It's a lovely piece of kit with superb tone and doesn't owe me much as I bought it in the mid 70's while I worked on Jersey.

I've been up to Curries and, to be honest, the stuff on offer is rubbish. OK the prices are good, between £20 & £60 but there's nothing there up to the Sony.

Shortly, I'm going in to the local Stereo Specialists to see if they have anything suitable but meantime.

I'm looking for some informed opinion, from users, before I spend £300 on the Bose, or slightly less from e-bay.

IMHO yes. A few of my friends have the Bose radio and the Radio/CD. They have a fantastic, rich, deep sound and you definitely get what you pay as it will show up all the cruddy £50 radios, including DAB ones for but to get the best you need to have an excellent signal. I nearly bought one 6 months ago but got these speakers for my computer instead click here as I listen to the radio over the Internet now.
Personally I would treat myself as you are only here once and it is not a rehearsal.

Do you have one of those "designer outlets near you"?

I called at the York one, where I found the prices of Bose equipment to be very reasonable. As for the Bose radio I cannot answer your question as I was more interested in their multi-media system at £299, this bit of kit really blew my socks off and is now on my wish list.

I have had a Bose radio/cdplayer for over 10 years now and it has proved to be a good buy. Expensive, but sheer quality. Treat yourself ! The only gripe I have is that it's not digital !

I was going to get a Bose but then stumbled upon this on the net, Creative Soundworks Radio only £189. The reviews are true i think its fantastic and it saved me a lot of money. click here

As a professional sound man, I can't get over the high quality of the Wave Radio.

Go for it.

The Bose is a remarkable product and the price reflects it.

My son has one and I am much impressed. However it is only FM radio and that is due for closure with the advance of DAB. What that fateful date is, I know not. To be borne in mind methinks.

I tried the Bose and sent it back (with absolutely no problems, it must be said).

Far too much bass, and no adjustment possible.

Good for the real heavy stuff, but if you're looking to get good reproduction of the higher registers of, for instance, the violin, forget it.

Remarkable technology that something so small can vibrate the floorboards, but it has limitations

I bought the bose wave player with additional cd rack. Fantastic quality and putting the telly/dvd player sound thru the aux connection almost made the price worth it on its own - it really enhances the sound experience. Demise of fm radio is I admit a concern - tried to order a dab radio reciever from Bose, but they never supplied - i have still to check out why.

The same company that made your speakers also makes this little beauty:
