Boot Sector Virus - but no Command prompt

  First Bass 20:33 11 Feb 05

Hiya folks. My friend's 40GB HD 512MB Ram Boss computer runs W98 and has a Boot Sector Virus reported by "Trend Chipaway Virus Guard". His AVG checks the boot sector but reports nothing, yet the PC runs slow, applications freeze or fail to start, and the web DD connection keeps failing. There have been related boot sector postings on here, which very usefully mentioned using fdisk/mbr to clear the master boot record by using a floppy recovery disk. Sadly, my friend cannot locate the command prompt anywhere. If he goes via "My Computer" no fdisk file can be found on the W98 recovery floppydisk, or Windows 98 CD. Does this mean a HD reformat is his only option? Thanks for reading this.

First Bass,

you can download a boot disk from here, but remember if he uses the fdisk option he will need to do a format and fresh install anyway.

P.S. You will get a lot more help by moving this posting to the helproom.
