Best value multi-function device?

Hi
I am looking for a) a deskjet printer b) a scanner/ copier function and perhaps a fax function but the latter not vital. I do not plan to print photos.

I understand the consumables usually bump up the price- is there a good machine out there with a and b features with low cost cartridges?
Many thanks
Sam

I use an HP 3180 all in one. Argos and other retailers are selling these for about £39.99 nowadays. There is a similar 'updated' model for £49.99. You cannot go wrong with either of these imho.

The HPC3180 is excellent--- once you get it up and running. I have had one for 12 months now but had great problems initially with software loading. Eventually solved by a download solution from HP. I am using WXP so drivers should not have been a problem

I have a brother DCP770cw. It was a bit pricey £135 but it has and does connect to my desktop via usb and connects to my lappy via WFi.
The scan and print results are fine, am well pleased with it.

Recently bought a Brother DCP-350C,printer,scanner,copier for less than £80, have used Think compatibles without any problems, and today Choice Stationery have reduced the price to 99p per cart !!
I queried this price, but it was confirmed by email.
So if you have a Brothet that uses LC1000 carts I suggest you have a look at their website.
