AOL Instant Messenger AIM

My wife wants to use instant messenger to chat with her brother. I've always been very wary of AOL. I currently use IE (Blueyonder) and Windows Messenger. Is AIM likely to conflict with these or try to take over my PC?

I do not think AIM is the same as the whole suite AOL software.

But, you can try Trillian which works with AIM, Yahoo, MSN etc. click here. This program is recommended by a few computer magzines (cannnot remember which ones).

I use Trillian (V 3.1 out now), as mentioned by TomJerry, which handles most chat messenger programs. Previously I was using version 1.74.

Alternatively, if you have or plan to install Skype for Internet phone calls (which includes conferencing), a chat section is now included in its features.

It's a useful link but you didn't make it clear why you had provided it, which led to the confusion...:-)
