AOL Broadband with Win98

I was using dial up aol8 with Win98 and had no problems but since I upgraded to Broadband the computor crashes after a couple of minutes reverting back to the Win98 desktop page. Even for the short time I am connected there does not seem to be any increase in speed over normal dial up as promised by the adverts.
My simple mind seems to think it might be a phone line problem but if any of you experts out there have any ideas it would be appreciated

Have you reconfigured your internet connection & disabled Dial up.
If not you may have a conflict in registry settings.
Is your b/b modem USB or lan connected - can cause problems if usb.
Might help but if not post back & the real experts may have some other ideas.

Can you confirm that you have installed the broadband software from aol, using the broadband modem, and have fitted the ADSL splitter to your phone-line, also modem and phone connected into the correct sockets? Regards. j.
