My budget is £500, but cant decide between the 3 below. Or there might be something better someone could recommend. My main priority is a 15.4" widescreen

I'd personally opt for the centrino and eventually, in time, add another 512ddr2 ram.

Is the Centrino processor better than the Sempron?

Yes, by far. It has a higher level 2 cache which improves performance. Some will claim that it is not noticible but I belive that it is.

With the large files that most of us have to cope with these days, a large cache is a big real-world benefit. The only mobile processor that would sway me from a Pentium M is a Core Duo, but they start at around £1000-1200 at the moment and get substantially cheaper for some time yet. Getting a Pentium M for £500 is a recent and impressive achievement.

wjrt, that Dell one seems quite good. Has anyone got one of those Acer Ferrari laptops? The cheapest one is about £900, more or less similar in spec to the £500 Centrino above but with an AMD Turin 1.6GHZ processor instead of the Centrino. How can the extra £400 be justified?

Which is better, the AMD Turin 1.6GHZ in the Ferrari or the Intel Centrino 1.7GHZ in the Acer Aspire?

The £500 Acer Aspire Centrino from Staples seems to be cheapest. Ebuyer and Savastore are charging about £550 for it.
