wireless problem: pc & mac

The household went wireless 9 months ago with Netgear router, 1 PC ( + Belkin high speed G card) and 1 Apple Mac G4 ( + Airport card).
From the word go the Mac has operated wirelessly with no problems, whereas the PC consistently gets a weak signal, with sluggish performance and fitful internet delivery. The 2 computers are sited at more or less the same distance from the router. with the same amont of wood and plaster separating them.
We got engineers in 3 months ago who shifted the fridge, turned off the cordless phone, and tinkered around before suggesting an auxiliary router which we went with (Linksys).
At first the PC worked fine but the signal gradually faded. Now a second PC (+ Belkin card) is in the network - a little further away but still within the recommended distance. This one doesn't get a reliable signal either.
The Mac is still working fine - why aren't the PC's? Whatever obstacles may be impeding the signal to the PCs obviously don't have any effect on the Mac's reception. Is the problem with Belkin cards? Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received...
