Win XP Machine Named in Error

I recently purchased a computer with which I am enjoying (?) my first encounter with XP.

First thing I didn't do was to read instructions.

First thing I did do, when invited by XP was to give the machine a name (for use if networking, I think).

Unfortunately, I gave it a name that I now want to use as a user name.

Is there any way I can alter the name I gave the machine, and, whilst about it, can I alter a user name as well ?

Best regards to all
