virtual java machine

i've just moved over to windows xp and loaded aol 8. when trying to view many sites, including crosswords and banking, a box comes in requiring my pc to have "virtual java machine". it looks as tho the pc is downloading it from the link box, but nothing seems to actually happen. it's only a 4kb thing. please help.

you need to download java as xp does not come with it packaged now click here

Personally, I prefer Microsoft Virtual machine to the Sun version.
